Good to know AISD will be putting all those bond funds to good use. Looks like they’ve already gotten started. Priority 1 - It’s clearly worth $322k to Austin taxpayers to erase as much of our unseemly past as possible. For instance, take a guy who served on Austin’s school board for 17 years, helped found the State School for Colored Blind and Deaf, and was a trustee at the Texas School for the Blind. The ugly truth - he was a private in the Confederate Army. What good citizen wouldn’t approve $77k to dishonor that lowlife scumbag? Thank goodness our taxes will be well-spent insuring that children will no longer be associated with this unconscionable behavior. Who sez bureaucrats don’t earn their keep? Keep up the good work AISD!

Do they care whether these guys were leaders? Nope. Did they even check to see if Fulmore had been drafted? Probably not. Appearances are more important than Truth. Do they care that AISD is running a $30 million deficit while they talk up Austin’s affordability problem? Hell no. It’s only money, especially to the well-healed minority who have the time and wherewithall to create and pursue these issues.
The black guy who’s quoted in the AAS report calls himself an African-American. Why? Why doesn’t he think of himself as simply an American? I bet he doesn’t refer to whites as European-Americans. It’s identity politics, the divisive tactic that keeps thrusting race and other differences into the spotlight. And it’s indicative of something much deeper - The rise of multi-culturalism vs. the old American melting pot where others are assimilated into the American culture. Multi-culturalism is an experiment - a theory that does not work. Europe has been showing us where it leads.
Never mind reality. The important thing is to sanitize history. And remember, these Confederates were nearly all Democrats. We can’t have that. Who sez bureaucrats don’t earn their keep? Keep up the good work AISD!
