218 S. Lamar Blvd Zoning

The former Schlotzskys site is scheduled for a rezoning vote on July 30th. They are seeking a zoning change from CS/CS-V to PUD to allow an increase in height from 60 feet to 96 feet to accommodate a 7-story glass office building on a 1.266-acre site.

The proposed project at 218 South Lamar Blvd (the northwest corner of South Lamar Blvd and Toomey Rd), is located within the Waterfront Overlay hence the need to changing the zoning.

If you are interested in commenting on the change instructions for submitting comments can be found on the second page of the City Council agenda:

Hmmm. Wish it was full mixed use residential / office / retail.

Totally agree! The ZNA is strongly opposed to the zoning change, and one of their arguments is that the zoning should be VMU similar to other lots on S. Lamar. There are some positives to the proposal - bike parking, $$ for South Lamar improvements, etc. But seems like it could have been a much better project, esp. if it was not just an office tower.
